Watch these 3 Christians (i presume) talk about evolution, skip to 2:08 to watch the part when the guy with the cap thing (somebody enlighten me what is that please? i have no fashion knowledge at all -.-) describes how the world would be like if atheists ruled it.
After watching, I was quite irritated and was prepared to launch into a full-fledged essay about why atheists are not necessarily immoral.
But i did a google search and I found this brilliant essay by Alonzo Fyfe which basically said everything i wanted to say. Please read his essay here and leave him a comment if you like it ^^
Now time for some personal flaming.
I simply hate that guy with the cap thing (help!). It has nothing to do with his religion -.- It's just the way the you can tell he sees non-believers/agnostics/atheists as lowly, immoral scum. The way he speaks with deeply grounded anger and contempt in his heart. The way every time he finishes a point, he'll do a slight head tilt to the left and give his I'm-So-Damn-Right stare.
"I know that if i didn't have God's judgement to fear, I would have killed many many lives." he said.
I actually have this theory that some people are only ethical because they fear God, and it's true! It is not my problem if he needs God to keep him from killing (something i would never understand). But he has to understand some of us atheists and some believers alike, don't need God to be ethical. I'm an agnostic/atheist and I haven't killed anyone, nor have i even THOUGHT about killing. For goodness sake, I don't even LITTER. -.-
When people have their own set of ethics, principles and values...they can be ethical even without God's set of divine rules.
I know many pretty damn good Christians and religious people out there (my bf is a christian) and it's sad that it is always a small portion of people who makes a bad name for them.
If God or the Bible taught you anything, it should have taught you to see the world in a better light.

i was an one when i was in college(no church-no religion-nothing) :D. Like around 2-3 years though i'm studying in a sectarian school. Just hmmm influenced by one of my teacher. but right now, i'm back to my ever loved roman catholic religion. PEACE! And it's so nice to have GOD in back in my life!
ME
being atheist is most liberating. it's not that we dont know morality...we just think far beyond what the Book says, or the so-called moral framework created by the church (or guys like him). haha. cheers! :)
i'm glad i stumbled upon this blog. haha.
these 3 kids are so stupidly funny it'd be rather amusing if there aren't so many of them.
did they practice their facial expressions too..? lol
as for me, i feel so sorry for those people who don't believe in God.. I wonder how will they explain the air they currently breathe...? did it just popped out of nowhere..? surely the story of creation is hard to believe.. that's why it takes a DEEP FAITH to trust and believe in God.
But try to see the picture.. What will Christians lose if God is not true...? Basically, not that much.. maybe time for studying and believing on a lie.. BUT what will Atheists lose if the Bible is TRUE..? Basically, EVERYTHING...
I believe the cap thingee the righteous kiddo is wearing is called a beanie? That's what I'd call it...
Not that I'd care what this rubbish-touting douchebag wears or has to say for that matter!
hi, i wanted to watch the video but I don't see it....you have a link to it?
Some people don't have the originality or creativity to think for themselves. They need something like their belief in God to justify themselves and their actions. Their beliefs guide their lives rather than an interpretation of what is right or wrong.
@Matt Oxley here's the link
Video
but you could have just googled "If Atheists Ruled the World" and it would've come right out ^^
@Franklin yupps, tt's a beanie as another reader informed me :D
@jeremae i don't feel that i'll lose so much if God was true...except maybe for the fact that i'll be going to hell ^^ anyway the argument you're referring to is Pascal's Wager. It says it's better to believe in God cus if God doesn't exist, believers lose nothing. But if God exists, nonbelievers go to hell ^^ google it if anyone's interested :D
the cap thingy is referred to by hubbie and me as BONNET ;)
I've learned to accept the fact that there will always be aetheist who would put down every religion they know. And so with that, I also learned to ignore them. :)
IF your faith is strong (no matter what you believe in) these people won't make you falter
I like the comment of Anne. Others even use the name of God in vain just to have money. I have nothing against atheist or any other religion as long as harmony and peace is maintained, everybody happy but the reality, religion causes so much chaos in this world.
BTW, I have replied to your comment with regard NuffNang ads in my WebbieStuffs blog. Thank you for sharing your insights.
I dont care whether my friends are atheist or religious. Please enjoy your current whatever life and as long as you didnt disturb other people. Am I right?
Indeed Stephen! That is a very righteous attitude. I agree with you. It's the inside that matters, not the definition of a person as he is atheist or not or what!
While I believe in God I don't participate in church or anything of the sorts....I don't fell ANYTHING like that! OMG! Uncalled for! I think the yellow sweater kid is high as a kite and has a thing for monkeys!
I believe in God but not in religion.
I don't think religion is the only thing that shapes our morals and values so it's not fair to say that non-believers are immoral or unethical. Family, friends and even our environment plays a much bigger role.
Hey, this video is a satire.
Those three kids aren't actually serious, and I doubt that they're fundies.
All the quotes are from the Fundies Say the Darndest Things website.
You should probably back off of those kids because it looks like they're just acting in jest!
i agree with teleprompter. those kids are just "acting up". for what reason? i don't know. every know religion has a God they worship. They are of different names but it's the same God. The difference comes in the promise of salvation and everlasting life.
Although atheist are not "bad" people because they too have a set of guiding morals. My question is, where do they base their stand on what is right and what is wrong?
There are really a lot of misconceptions about atheism and base on experience...well God believers are not making a good job. Look at the Philippine experience for example. We have God-fearing leaders yet we are still plague with corruption.
To desparateblogger: We get our morality from secular ethics.
I came to say what Teleprompter said... this is quite obviously satire and in fact a bad one at that because in tone it is just as judgmental against people of faith as fundie-christians tend to do. pot, meet kettle.
I disagree with Desperateblogger though... not every known religion has a god that they worship. most of the lesser practiced religions today are based more on a philosophical idea of a higher power. I am a taoist... taoism is one where we don't view a higher power as a wizard in the sky but more of an all encompassing nature within us all and around us all seeking a state of balance.
John, all I could add to what you said is...
AMEN!
The majority of people murdered in the world have been killed by religious people killing other religious people in the name of religion. "My God is more righteous than yours so I will kill you to show you his power." Throughout history man has killed fellow man in the name of one god or another. I am not sure, but if that represents the "morality" of believers, I prefer to side with those whose morals tend to lead them away from being so prideful and filled with hatred towards others who disagree with them. (Oh, I fall under the brand of Atheism called Buddhism. No, Buddha is not a God. Merely a teacher to be shown respect.) Anyway, just my opinion. Spread peace and love how ever you choose.
Buddhism is only an imaginary, ppl who act like tat just stupid n arrogant .. sorry I had to say ..
Give these people a break. There's sth that must have pushed them to extreme thinking. People like them deal with life in general and absolute terms. Most probably because situations in life are just too diverse and complicated, our belief could be challenged. His generalization that you need faith to be ethical is too simplistic and convenient so that he doesn't need to deal with the difficult and humbling fact that he could be wrong.
But then again, I know many people of faith who can deal with life in a pragmatic relative way.
Yes atheists [like me] are really immoral----
We crusade for a wretched bit of land, crash planes in skyscrapers,
destroy those who are of other faith...
DAMN IT!
Good post. I'm an ateist/agnostic myself. Actually I don't want to be labeled, something like god doesn't play a role in my life. I only believe in myself and what I see.
I will just add that I hate phoney people, who don't practise what they preach. That's the main problem of organized religion.
Morals and ethics in the secular world are subjective-they differ from people, societies and cultures; and are changeable to situations and time.
Although non-Christians also have good sets of ethics to follow, they are still inferior to God's standard. For it is written: "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord."-Proverbs 21:30 and "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps."-Jeremiah 10:23. Because He created men, only He can tell us what is righteousness.
For the chaos related to religion, take note: "And no wonder, even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light."-2 Corinthians 11:14 and "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect."-Matthew 24:24 & Mark 13:22. Hence, not all Christians are true Christian.
couldn't watch video
regarding morality, if one were to tell me they got all their morals from the bible I'd either run as fast as I could or inquire as to whether they actually READ the bible. I don't mean picking and choosing, but ALL of it. sure there are a lot of good things to be taken from the bible-concepts that however pre-date christianity. why do christians think they have ownership of good morals- they also think they own marriage, good grief!do people realize that there were great civilizations that existed previous to the stories of primitive goat herders. Your 'theory' that people are good out of fear of God is not an uncommon one. It actually makes me very suspicious and nervous that people people are only good to reap the reward of eternal life or avoid hellfire. How do you know if they are genuine? how do you trust them? I have no desire to reap rewards and I have no fear whatsoever of a god, yet I'm decent to people and law abiding. The difference to 'my' good and a 'religious' persons' good is that I'm genuine.
So what is the murder rate in those secular idustrial nations in europe? you would think they would have unbelievable crime rates without religion. no it's actually the united states that has these overwhelming problems 9and we are supposedlt the MOST religious country in the world!) how can this be?
my opinion- religions cause MORE problems in this world. look around you. if religion is not fighting science they are for the support of human rights abuses, the reason for so much warfare and conflict.
religion at one point in history had it's purpose but is no longer needed and has to go. newer generations are staying away from religion in increasing numbers and as the older generations die off mankind will truely progress.
Kinda rambled here...sorry if it goesn't string together nicely
the hat thing is called a beanie and its american.
