I Got Bashed For My Previous Post

I was sacrificing sleep, trying to finish my Premarital Sex post when Wei Jie told me someone wrote a post criticizing my post "My Blog Is A Failure".

For convenience' sake, I shall paste his post, entitled "Your Blog Is A Failure" here.

"Recently I came across this blog post on Nuffnang innit. It says something like my blog is dead or something like that. "My Blog Is A Failure" And I must say that this kind of post irks me to my spine. It's annoying. Annoying in a sense that you drag everybody along into your melancholy and your infinite sadness. Seriously, I think the writer should have not blog and get a better life instead.

She blogs about giving it all up just because there's simply not enough hits for her blog to make money. Duh! What a way to grab attentions. Well, it works - it does grab my attention and I can't help but to feel sorry for this poor little soul and it kinda remind me of this song "I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan. Typical SGD, being kiasu all the time. Patheticly, utterly, totally useless.

Let me just reply to all that :

First and foremost, say you want more hits on your blog right? So I'll ask you this question, what did you do to deserve more hits? If you right a post and just sit there and hoping that hits will fall of from the sky, don't dream of it, don't even think of it 0- it won't get you anywhere because in this context you want hits and hits will bring you more money (since you mentioned that you want to have more money from advertisement) and I presume that you right good stuffs that at least half of the tennants of planet earth would be dying to google for your articles online, am I right?

But sadly - No. You don't have a niche market. You write ... Oh well, not worth mentioning but seriously, if you want it to be good, work on it. And why am I talking about niche market here? It's insane.

Anyway, is not all about making money and getting hits unless you're a serious full time blogger and you make a living out of it. It's a hobby, a passion and something you can live without as per say. You blog because you want to, because it's a new way of socializing, interact with people, with friends and like talking to your audience and if there is no audience it's like a diary, a diary that you want someone to read about and to remind you of what have you done, what you've accomplished and what not.

If you think that money is the focus of you blogging, then treat it like a business and stop buying HOPE! *period"

My comment:

Hello, the target of your lashing is here :)

For people to reference the post, it's here: Vicissitudes of Life

Let's do a thorough analysis of your gratuitous criticism.

"It says something like my blog is dead or something like that" Well it certainly does not say so. ^^ Please check, it doesn't hurt to refer back and get your facts right, right?

"you drag everybody along into your melancholy and your infinite sadness" The tone of my post is far from melancholic, it is one of relief. You need to be better at deciphering tones :)

"She blogs about giving it all up just because there's simply not enough hits for her blog to make money." Please enlighten me where I blogged about "giving it all up"? Because the last time I checked, I didn't. ^^

-Grammatically correct version-
"What a way to grab attention*. Well, it worked* - it did* grab my attention and I can't help but *feel sorry for this poor little soul and it kinda remind me of this song "I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan. Typical SGD, being kiasu all the time. Pathetically*, utterly, totally useless." I have nothing to say about your baseless accusations, but if you insinuate that I'm a kid...then you are basically verally abusing a poor child right now :D

"First and foremost, say you want more hits on your blog right?" Once again, where did I say that I want more hits? :) It's easy to make accusations and don't even let people refer to the original to verify them right? ^^

-Grammatically correct version again-
"So I'll ask you this question, what did you do to deserve more hits? If you write* a post and just sit there and hoping that hits will fall off* from the sky, don't dream of it, don't even think of it 0- it won't get you anywhere because in this context you want hits and hits will bring you more money (since you mentioned that you want to have more money from advertisement) and I presume that you write* good stuff* that at least half of the tenants* of planet earth would be dying to google for your articles online, am I right?" No you are not right. Like I said, I did not say I want more hits, and you are in no position to judge whether I deserve it or not since you have NO IDEA of my efforts. Again, I did not say that I want more money. I said I shall be contented with whatever I'm earning. Thank you for presuming I write good stuff, but you are in no position to judge.

"But sadly - No. You don't have a niche market. You write ... Oh well, not worth mentioning but seriously, if you want it to be good, work on it. And why am I talking about niche market here? It's insane." Lol, it's really amusing how you assume the simplest thing and write a whole bullshit out of it, whilst trying to throw some sarcastic remark in here and there.

"Anyway, is not all about making money and getting hits unless you're a serious full time blogger and you make a living out of it. It's a hobby, a passion and something you can't**** live without as per say. You blog because you want to, because it's a new way of socializing, interact with people, with friends and like talking to your audience and if there is no audience it's like a diary, a diary that you want someone to read about and to remind you of what have
you done, what you've accomplished and what not." What a nice story you have here...irrelevant. No one said it was all about getting money and hits, no one.

Seriously, you come across as an overly critical personwho doesn't even bother to get your facts right before you criticize. I suggest you do that next time, and get a spell checker. :)

I think I will respect you a little bit more if you actually publish this. Do try to save yourself some integrity. :)

It's honestly hilarious how he can cook up a storm from baseless accusations.

Since he took to great pains to illustrate how "I'm just a kid" compared to him who is "a mature adult"...it doesn't reflect well on adults does it?

;)

UPDATE: Since many people told me to remove his link, I will. Don't accuse me of plagiarism :)

Right, i faced this kind of situation before where my friend misunderstood my post before triggering something unexpected.

Sometimes a simple sentence can carries lots of ideas depending on the reading mood of readers. The one who writes may not mean it but the one who reads might.

It's important for readers to 'understand' how writer feel, and not to 'assume' how writer feel.

They may know some parts of our story but they will never know the full story of ours since our story never ends.

One thing that readers should bare in mind is that 'a blog is for writer to express yet they have the right to keep some for themselves'

Personal opinion: He is anyway wrong to think that he knows you.

LOL. "They see me trollin', they hatin'..."

At any rate to present an alternate point of view (because I love playing the devil's advocate), this bloke's blogging from the viewpoint of a profit blogger.

Profit bloggers scoff at things like social blogging (essentially the whole 'here's my thoughts and/or pretty pictures for you to see), not having a niche ("what do you mean you're not blogging about disposable lighter repair works exclusively??"), and not Search Engine Optimizing (SEO) your blog properly (thus the comment about Google).

I see no reason to be hatin the banker ranter - he's just blogging from a different paradigm.

why are you people all taking a neutral stand when it is that person who is obviously in the wrong?

She did NOTHING wrong! She only declared that she would stop blog promotion, only to be flamed by idiots who misinterpret the title??!! Did they even READ the post? The person came in here to violate the right that she holds on her content, with no grounds WHATSOEVER.

Get your asses up and defend a fellow blogger.

I like people who criticize, and Shu Fen, here's some great point that you might not know and that is, "if you are not getting criticize, you are not marketing hard enough."

But of course you are not marketing your blog, but again you did something that caught people's attention which in marketing and advertising world is just that important, and that is "YOUR HEADLINE"

Chris Thoo said...

Shu Fen, I always believe that when the emo & stress level goes up, intelligence level go down. Intelligence level go down meaning to say we won't be able to think properly. And that was probably the main intention of that person for writing such childish statements.

Don't worry about it la. You own your blog right? If he comes back to read your blog everyday, you'll probably have an extra unique anyway. =)

@Kelvin, I think you're right...I caught too caught up emotionally. I'm still trying my best to ignore baseless criticisms.

@leo7_lion, so glad that I'm not alone in this. Thank you.

@roger, I know what you mean. But i'm insulted personally that's why I'm reacted in this way. (perhaps to the best way though...)

@jessica, if they were irked too it's because they assumed from my title without reading...

@The Bad Blogger, I welcome constructive criticisms, but not baseless accusations :)

Hahaha this is a joke. This guy talks about things she had never written (or righten* lol). He claims that she was trying to achieve hits that way.

If she had never written those things, how is she trying to achieve hits? How did this guy manage to know so much about shu fen from one post? How does he know that she is a money conscious or hits conscious person? Is he basing all this... on his own personality?

Well, that is the way I see it is. HE is the one that is trying to get hits off of this. He is trying to defame our shu fen and claim a little bit of shu fens popularity pie.

Try again next time.

Hey, bad publicity is still publicity!

Haha!

see it from another way, at least now both of u got more hits. ;) Im here also because I read his post! Take it easy girl, this is what we call it blog. Freedom to write.

shadowmoon said...

What can be said after reading the post and the comments?
Freedom of speech?
So, since we have freedom of speech I can simply start speaking/writing whatever goes through my mind even though it may be completely baseless, irresponsible and may even prejudice others?
And because we all have this freedom I should not defend myself when someone does something like that against me?

Well, I believe that when someone says something bad or with a pejorative tone against other, the one being "attacked" shouldn't stay quiet and hope that "every listener will be able to make the right judgment and will see I'm not like that".
A bad publicity is still a publicity, yes it is, and it's even more powerful than good publicity meaning it's even more effective in doing what it should do, repel people.

People make assumptions, people take their own conclusions, but people get influenced by others.

Also, I'm assuming that the ones who commented something like "Why care? Let it be! He have the right to do what he's doing" believes that they don't need to defend themselves when someone bad-mouth them because it falls into the right that "freedom of speech" gives us.
If this assumption is wrong than I think all my arguments fall down.

This guy's great because he spurred you to write. Sometimes anger is an energy that I can use when I'm feeling like my blog writing is pointless.

So I'd like to declare that my blog is pointless, just as yours is a failure. It really does take the pressure off.

Hi Shu Fen

Happy that you stand up and speak out against the points on your post. I suggest, move on & do not be drag into this exchange further.

Your strength lies in your passion & style in writing, keep blogging and writing with your heart.

Even for my photoblog, posted 1 photo & received an overseas blogger to make a comment that was quite nasty, I just thank him for his feedback & continued photoblogging till today :)

First off, I suggest you put a rel="nofollow" to the link to his blog. Or delete his link entirely :)

My take on his rant is this. He read the title of your post. Scanned it a bit. And wrote his rant without reading your post entirely. There are a lot of other bloggers like him. Ignore him and continue blogging :)

Miss Confession said...

actually, i think he is blogging simply about this to get hits for his blog.. every1 loves a controversy btw bloggers and every1 loves to read abt bashings and bitchings of others.

Ignore him and continue blogging the way u do. plus, i think if a person wants to bash abt other bloggers, they should learn to write properly without grammatical errors to begin with lol

It's not a bashing. It's a compliment. You shouldn't be sour about it.

Yeah, I won't mind taking any bashing anytime provided the basher link back to my blog.

Wow, I never could believe someone could have the time and the balls to react to a blog post posted by someone who just wants to vent out his/her frustration. The blog reaction he/she made is ridiculously over-reacting. I guess there are really a few minions out there who don't really have nothing to post or running out of ideas to blog about but nit-pick another's harmless blog post.
All I can say, no one should mind about what is your intention in your blogging. Whether to make money or to generate hits, no one should care. Each to his own.
Ignore other people's advises to avoid emo posts.
You own this blog. The reason why blogs were created originally is to log on and make a journal of what your day is, what your feelings are, whatever . You can write whatever you want in your blog as long as you don't offend anyone. This is your blog. Write what you want. Emo, happy or sad...go on. Just don't make baseless assumptions or conclusions or lambaste another one just like what this blogger did to you.

Shu Fen said...

@bingkee, I couldn't agree with you more.

Especially since I've decided to write for myself only and not for the sake of catering to readers, if I want to be emo all the time so what!

Thanks a lot :)

Yo shufen! When I actually read the whole post from that fellow, I can't help but to laugh, seriously. You know, when I read his wrong English and spelling, I just intended to correct it as well. Reading your comments towards his is even funnier. Good job on giving back CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms like what my post said.

Honestly, I've came to a point where I just think not everyone will love me, so I got over it. Painful but real truth. Oh well, there's always the fans rather than haters. Focus on the fans and life would be way better! haha

hey shufen, sorry to kno u've got a 'hater'... it happens. it's emotionally trying but we should all learn to take a deep breaths and ignore taunts that do not make us feel good. an asshole will always be an asshole... we on d other hand are phoenixes rising from the ash!
