I finally experienced what it means for Singapore to be a "fine" country today...
There is this bakery within Yishun MRT control station, literally 5 metres from where you tap your EZ-link, from which I often buy a coffee butter bread to eat for breakfast just before I board the train.
It has been a habit for me to buy my bread, sit down on the stone benches beside the control station and chomp on my bread before resuming my journey towards wherever.
Today was the same, innocent me clutching a guitar, eating my bread...but little did I know, what I had been doing all along was very very very very very very WRONG. Out of nowhere, this guy in his twenties materialized in front of me and the half-eaten bread in my mouth, and pointed at me "You are not supposed to eat here, if you continue to eat here I will report you and fine $500!"
I couldn't remember exactly what he was wearing cus I was too busy maintaining an incredulous look on my face, but I get the overall impression that he was dressed rather geek-ily...you know high-waisted pants and all. Maybe I was being biased cus I was being accused and all, but I would definitely plop him under my "Weird people" category just based on his appearance.
Now, I was going to put in a word for myself but nothing came through mouthfuls of coffee-flavoured flour. Instead I ran off to somewhere else, humbled and defeated, to finish the rest of my interrupted meal.
When I was done, I rubbed away the crumbs on the edges of my mouth and marched back into the control station....and I saw it !!!
There was indeed a "No eating or drinking" sign.
Now it leaves us the question as to why there is a bakery and bubble tea shop in a "No eating or drinking" area?
I'm so extremely sorry that I assumed I was allowed to eat the bread I bought and paid for within 5 metres from where I bought it.
Next time I'll remember to buy my lil coffee bread from the bakery inside the control station, and scoot off to some place beyond the boundaries of the control station to eat it and come running back when I'm done.
What the hell?
