An interesting question.
It appears your professor wants to see how you think and handle problem solving.
The short definition for Deontolgists:
ethics, esp. that branch dealing with duty, moral obligation, and right action.
Consequentialism OTOH is a newer concept and a darling of secular progressive/humanist around the world. Perhaps this is to short an answer, is that Consequentialism in its shortest essence is the old phrase, that the ends justifies the means.
That definition has allowed some of the greatest atrocities against humans. Think of Pol-Pot, Hitler, Stalin, and other dictators who murdered tens of millions.
